Remembrance at Wardsend 2018

With the 11th of the 11th falling on the Sunday this year, as well as it being the centenary of the end of the First World War, there are obviously a number of  larger events taking place that we know people will want, or be expected, to attend.  In recognition of this we have decided to hold a more low-key event at Wardsend.
However we would like to invite you to join us for a simple wreath laying ceremony during which we will read out the names of all those buried at Wardsend, or buried elsewhere and mentioned on family memorials in the cemetery, as we remember those who gave their lives in both World Wars and subsequent conflicts. We are asking people to arrive at 10.30 am for a 10.45 am start.

Later that day we will also be laying a wreath at the CWGC commemorative screen wall at City Road Cemetery.

Wates Living Space who helped us this year on a community day will be laying a wreath on Monday 12th at Wardsend at 11.00 am. Everyone is welcome to to attend. Please arrive in good time as there will be a two minute silence before laying the wreath.

William and Kate Townsend – ‘Mr and Mrs Tommy Dodd’

When our cemetery opened, men were the public face of families and communities. This tour presents evidence of the unreported lives of women, how they worked, protected their families and grieved for their dead.
